Normally the connecting rod experiences following forces:
a. Forces due to gas or steam pressure.
b. Inertia Forces

1. The maximum value of the axial force is considered from the P-theta diagram at various angles.
2. The maximum bending stress due to inertia of the connecting rod is Cross checked.
3. Maximum bending stress occurs close to top dead centre, where the range for crank angle, theta is between 650 to 700 from top dead centre.
4. Being a long slender member, connecting rod is checked for buckling. The criteria adopted for safety against buckling is, critical buckling load should be at least four times greater than actual load.
5. The big end and small end bearings are checked for wear.
6. Connecting rod assembly cap is attached by two bolts to the connecting rod body giving rise to two possibilities. First, the cap may fail by bending fatigue; second, bolts may fail due to excessive tension. The E Yantra MEDO Connecting Rod module assesses the design for the above mentioned conditions.>
