Here is the Best Way to Begin with Radio Controlled Cars
Racing radio controlled cars is a fantastically exciting hobby. But one of the first questions for the newcomer to radio controlled cars is whether to choose an electric car or nitro powered car.
As a general rule nitro RC cars are really best for someone who has gained a little experience. And an electric RC car is the best way to gain that vital experience.
Electric RC cars are simpler. They make less noise and they are much cleaner than their nitro powered counterparts. The downside of electric is that they don't quite have the realism of nitro powered and some are less powerful.
But electric RC cars are available in some great designs that are a whole lot of fun and can hold their own against nitro powered models. One small recommendation I would make is that you buy at least two battery packs. Battery packs can generally be charged in around 3 minutes but some only last for about 5 minutes so it is always worthwhile buying a few to make the most of your car.
Personally I love off road models, especially dune buggys which I race around the sand dunes on beaches near to my home. I like to take along maybe four or five fully charged battery packs, just to make the most of my time jumping and racing in the sand dunes.
The key advantage of electric over nitro powered radio controlled cars is how easy they are to maintain. Like real cars nitro powered rc cars use real engines and these need the same sort of maintenance as the full size models. Electric RC cars are much simpler and therefore much more suitable for beginners and youngsters.
Both nitro and electric RC cars can be found in kit form and this adds a whole new dimension to the hobby. Building your own RC car is a great learning experience and can be immensely satisfying. But, again, I strongly recommend that you start off with an electric car and then maybe progress to a nitro powered model if you enjoy the hobby.
