Automotive Ball Joint Pullers
To remove ball joints, skilled auto mechanics use a very specific tool known as ball joint pullers. This is not the most common of auto tools, for they are only designed to loosen the ball joint from its firm position between the steering knuckle and the control arm located in a vehicle’s suspension. Ball joints are essentially points of pivot that allow a vehicle to properly turn its wheels. Ball joints do not require replacement very often.
Ball joints come in different sizes depending on the automobile to which they are attached. Ball joint pullers are usually adjustable, meaning they can work for a range of ball joints, although there are some separators used for only one size. With a three-way pivot, spherical ball joints help to control the turning of a vehicle’s wheels. To remove, replace or re-lubricate a ball joint, an auto technician uses the puller.
Ball joint pullers are constructed from drop-forged, heavy-duty alloy steel. Consisting of two pieces of steel attached by a pivot, one resembles a two-tyne fork. The other piece is somewhat flattened shaft with one end bent. The central pivoting bolt lets the working ends moves towards and away from each other. At the back end of the tool is a larger bolt and adjustable nut. Upon adjusting this bolt with a spanner once the puller is in place, the working ends of the tool create a wedging force that separates the ball joint from the other components of the suspension system.
Between the top of the ball joint and the control arm, the fork-like end of the ball joint puller is positioned. The flat, bent side of the tool sits atop the narrow end of the ball joint. With the tool in place, you take an open-end spanner appropriately sized for the nut and begin to rotate it clockwise. As the screw turns, leverage is created, and the tightly fixed part pops free.

Ball joint pullers are available individually or in sets. A professional auto shop should have a versatile set of pullers on hand so they can remove, inspect and/or replace worn out ball joints on a wide variety of cars, trucks and SUVs.
Tattoos and the military?
If you have tattoos on your neck(both sides and front), both hands(backs, palms, and knuckles), arms, and other places on your body, is there any branch of the military that will accept you? None of the tattoos are vulgar or gang related.
Best advice is talk to a recruiter, they changed policies a couple years ago. I have four two that can be seen, one on the back of the neck and the other on my calve. I however got them after I was in and I haven't had anybody say anything to me.
