Vacations With Kids: Suggestions On How To Keep Your Sanity
Simply the thought of having to make a long car ride with a child is enough to give you gray hairs. Plane tickets can put a big dent on your travel budget, so a car trip often proves to be a cheaper option. Since the economy isn't in the best state, many people are doing their best to save money. However, this shouldn't keep you from a much needed vacation. Canada and Mexico are only a car trip away, making a whole different sort of world very accessible for you and your family to explore. Ever since the U.S. passport card id came out, families have been able to travel for much cheaper.
I remember when I was younger and stuck in a car driving somewhere, my favorite activities were coloring books and craft sets. I had these big pieces of felt that were in tons of fun shapes. They had holes in them along the edges, and, with a shoe lace or a thick string, it made the best little girl sewing kit. I also had a huge baggie of markers and crayons along with an assortment of coloring books, and I would spend hours coloring pictures for everyone in the car. My little brother adored the big building blocks, and since they are easily disassembled as they are assembled, they kept him busy the whole way.
My mom would bring along these "worksheets" that had little puzzles on them. As we were driving, she would give me one that I would work really hard to complete, and I would give it back to her to "grade." I always got A's, although I doubt I got everything right, but this fostered in me a love of learning. As I got older, she would give me whole books of puzzles that taught basic addition and reading, and I definitely felt so proud of myself after I completed a page. These trips really do present a great educational opportunity.
Technology has been making so much progress, and one of the best things I've seen that keeps children busy is the Leapfrog Leapster. It is a little hand-held electronic device that plays video games that are not only fun, but educational as well. Although it's not as electronically advanced, you could get a tape recorder and record yourself reading your child's favorite stories. You could even change the names to include him or her in her in the story! Don't forget to include indications as to when to turn the page as well.
In order to get your passport card, you can either visit a USA passport office or apply on the internet. These cards are dramatically cheaper than regular passports. They allow you to travel by land or sea to various destinations, but they won't be good for a plane trip. This way, you and your family can go on vacation and not have to worry about dropping half your travel budget on investing in new passports.
If you are thinking of taking a vacation, you don't need to waste any time worrying about what to do with the kids. Whether you want to take a Mexican siesta or explore some beautiful Canadian landscapes, you only need to visit your passport agency or go online and get your passport card id. Some of my best memories come from traveling with my family, and you can give these memories to your very own children with an awesome family road trip.

A _New York Times _photojournalist turned Hollywood director, Vincent Laforet
has become synonymous with DSLR video, after his short film _Reverie_ helped
catapult Canon's 5D Mark II into the world of digital filmmaking. And after
playing such a significant role in launching that camera, we certainly weren't
surprised to see Laforet make an appearance at today's Canon Cinema event,
with his short film _Mobius_ getting some time on the big screen. The film
follows a photojournalist who stumbles upon a Cartel execution, but it also
tells the story of Canon's tightly-veiled C300 cinema camera, which the
company launched just moments ago. Laforet used a pre-production C300 (note
the green tape button labels) to shoot _Mobius_ in the Mojave Desert under a
variety of harsh conditions, including powerful sunlight and near-darkness, in
both extremely hot and chilly temperatures -- the camera appears to have
performed extremely well, given both the remote shooting environment and tight
production schedule.
Canon has yet to reveal the C300's price tag, which we expect to far undercut
the $120,000 Arri Alexa kit, but its sheer portability makes it a more
appealing option for filmmakers -- especially those with limited time and
other resources. ...
